Associate Professor Tom McWilliams is awarded the prestigious Anders Jahre's Prize for young researcher.

The Prize honours the achievements of Dr. McWilliams' work on autophagy. His research increases the understanding of how cells breakdown and recycle their own components, and opens insights of autophagy in aging and in clinical disorders.

Tom McWilliams said that he is honoured to receive the Award, and according to the University of Oslo he commented:

"Science is never a solo pursuit, and I am deeply grateful to the mentors, team members, collaborators, and colleagues whose energy and enjoyment of discovery have made this possible. I would also like to thank the faculty, and especially my family, for their unwavering support, encouragement, and strength".

Dr. McWilliams shares the Award together with Dr. William Nyberg from Karolinska Institutet.

SWAN congratulates both winners for this outstanding achievement!

The Anders Jahre's Awards for Medical Research has been awarded annually since 1960 by the Anders Jahre Foundation for the Promotion of Science. Anders Jahre was a Norwegian shipowner who had a special interest in medicine.
