Warmly welcome Special SWAN lecture by

Jared Rutter - Mitochondria and Metabolic Signaling

15th of October at 10:00

Lecture Hall 1, Biomedicum Helsinki

Jared Rutter, PhD, is distinguished professor of biochemistry in University of Utah and a member of the Nuclear Control of Cell Growth and Differentiation Program at Huntsman Cancer Institute. He is an HHMI  investigator since 2015.

Jared is a visionary leader in the field of molecular metabolism and signaling. His is specially interested how metabolic pathways impact cellular fate decisions, with implications  for cellular decisions to differentiate or proliferate –  crucial relevance for biology and diseases.

His original identification of mitochondrial pyruvate carrier provided molecular understanding and tools to intervene Warburg effect, first described in cancers but induced also in metabolic stress responses of postmitotic cells from astrocytes in the nervous system, the muscle or the heart.  Indeed, pyruvate metabolism is crucial for all differentiation/ proliferation events -  e.g. from T and B cells to general maintenance of glucose homeostasis in tissues and diseases.

Please come and be ready to learn of the fascinating world of metabolism.

Jared also serves an opponent of Simon Andersson on 14th of October at 13.00 in Viikki Biocenter 2 , Auditorium 1041.
